Classrooms
We have one class at each grade level from kindergarten through grade six. Each classroom has 30-32 students with two teachers and a teaching assistant.
In order to build strong classroom cultures, instructional continuity, and teacher-student relationships, we "loop" with our students. Looping occurs when teachers remain with their class from kindergarten to first grade, second to third grade, and fourth to fifth grade. Students are sometimes grouped in multi-age teams for academic subjects and expeditions.
GCCS has specialists for the visual arts, music, and physical education. Special education teachers are provided by the Rochester City School District. We contract with Clinical Associates of the Fingerlakes for speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy as needed.
