Sarah David
Teaching Assistant
Sarah
has lived in Rochester all of her life. She attended Monroe Community
College where she received her Associates degree in Liberal Arts. Sarah
has always enjoyed working with children and knew early on she wanted to work
in a school setting. She continued her education at SUNY Geneseo and
earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Sarah is an avid
horsewoman and spends her free time caring for and riding her horses. She
especially enjoys retraining racehorses for a second career as riding
horses. Sarah has a sister and two nephews in Canada whom she visits
often. She also enjoys planning her next adventure out west to visit her
brother.
Keri Gonzalez
Classroom Teacher
Keri Gonzalez has been working at GCCS since its opening in 2001. She had been teaching at the RMSC preschool for six years, and made a smooth transition just down the hallway. Keri has been growing professionally by presenting at Expeditionary Learning National Conferences as well as our own site seminars. One of Keri’s areas of expertise is creating a caring and nurturing classroom culture.
Another one of Keri's interests is prehistory. She won a Fund for Teachers Grant in July of 2006, which enabled her to travel to Montana to work with a paleontologist. She not only helped unearth dinosaur fossils in the field but worked on prepping bones in the lab as well.
Keri obtained her teaching degree from Suny Cortland and her Master's degree from Nazareth College. She and her family have lived in the Rochester area all their lives.

Melissa Fredericks
Classroom Teacher
Melissa Fredericks has been teaching since 1998. She earned her undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo, and her Master’s degree from Nazareth College. She has been at Genesee Community Charter School since its second year and has taught 4th grade and the K-1 loop.She has also taught preschool and special education. Melissa loves the creativity, authentic purposes for learning and excitement embedded in Expeditionary Learning.
Outside of school, Melissa spends most of her time with her two daughters, Macey and Savannah. Together they like to take walks, go to new places, go to the YMCA and do art and science projects.
