Dan Walpole
Classroom Teacher
Dan Walpole is a native of the Rochester area. He holds teaching certifications in elementary education and teaching students with disabilities and an M.S. in education from Nazareth College. Dan attended Allegheny College for his undergraduate work, where he earned a B.S. in psychology with minors in English and the Values, Ethics and Social Action program. Dan was active in a student-organized group that sought to integrate service-learning into as many classes as possible by working with professors, community members, and students to organize authentic service projects.
Dan has been teaching at GCCS since 2005 and was interested in serving the staff and school as a teacher representative on the board. Dan's Expeditionary Learning professional development experiences include institutes on mathematics, assessment and writing, as well as an Outward Bound canoeing the Missouri River along the Lewis and Clark Trail. As a professional at GCCS, Dan has helped facilitate workshops on school and staff culture, layering learning experiences, scaffolding instruction towards the creation of a final product, and meaningfully integrating the art of creative movement into content.
In his free time Dan reads to learn, and collects and plays a variety of musical instruments, particularly those might be found in a jug band.
Barbara Schild
Teaching Assistant
Barbara Schild recently moved to Rochester from Nyack, New York, a suburb of New York City. She has 15 years experience as a teaching assistant in a 1st/2nd grade multiage classroom, and most recently in a 4th grade collaborative classroom. One of her hardest decisions was leaving a position she loved, so she is excited to be part of the GCCS team.
Prior to being a teaching assistant, Barb had a corporate career for 10 years at a major utility company in a variety of Human Resources positions, including Pension and Benefit Administration, Employee Relations, and Affirmative Action. She holds a B.S.BA. in Behavioral Management from Shippensburg University.
Barb and her husband, Dick, live in Macedon with their very curious beagle, Spunky. She has a son, Dean, who is a student at Kapiolani College in Hawaii, and a daughter, Corinne, who attends Hope College in Michigan. Barb loves to travel, read, garden, and is an avid sports fan and Sudoku addict. She is thrilled to do and see all there is to experience in Rochester.
