Genesee River Fieldwork, September 2009
Our three day field study traced the route of the Genesee River, from its source as a spring in the mountains of Pennsylvania through small towns, through rocky gorges and across a fertile valley floor before cascading through Rochester on its way to Lake Ontario. We observed how the geography influenced the river's run and how the river has altered the landscape. From tributaries to oxbows to fossil laden shores, we learned a great deal about the river and the land that we call home.
