6th Grade
Welcome to Sixth Grade! Our classroom is proud to house the ultimate pillars of leadership and responsibility at GCCS. The environment for sixth grade encourages responsibility and activism. With appropriate supports in place, students have more social and academic freedom, and take on significant roles in the classroom and school. Students engage in more individual work, make choices regarding ways in which to share their learning, voice concerns in class meetings, and facilitate our school-wide Community Circle.
Our students extend their responsibility for leadership to the Rochester community as well. Each
year, the class takes on a new and important local “hot topic” to investigate. Students learn about many perspectives on an issue, research solutions developed by other cities around the country and the world, and present their findings and recommendations to city officials and other interested parties.
More responsibility prepares students for seventh grade, but also for a lifetime of service and community involvement. We strive to make our last year a memorable and productive one!
