The Story of Corn

WINTER, 2005-2006

Through research, work with experts, and fieldwork, kindergarteners discovered that many Seneca artifacts have one thing in common - corn. Students learned that corn was important in Seneca culture in three main areas - as food, to fulfill needs and wants, and in beliefs and traditions. The expedition culminated in a Corn Celebration in which students displayed artifacts with written descriptions, demonstrated how to make or use the artifacts, and shared vessels they made out of corn, clay, and other natural resources.
