Open to all

Applications for the 2021-22 school year are due April 1, 2021 in order to be included in the lottery on April 6, 2021. All students who are applying to our school will need to submit an online application including siblings of current GCCS students. Please visit to create an account or click on the "apply now" button on the top banner of our webpage.

As a public school, The Genesee Community Charter School is open to all applicants who fit our age guidelines. Students entering Kindergarten must turn 5 years old on or before December 1st. Students are admitted through a random lottery in April of each year.

Please join Genesee Community Charter School as we hold our annual lottery to welcome new students to GCCS for the 2021-2022 school year! This is a public lottery held safely online through Zoom due to our social-distancing strategy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Since we had to cancel information sessions and tours this year, we will share some additional information about our school during the lottery.  There is a limit of 100 participants in the Zoom meeting room. The lottery will be recorded, transcribed, and available on our website within 48 hours.

The GCCS Lottery was held on April 6th at 9:00  a.m. via Zoom.  Here is a link to the lottery recording(Lottery 2021-22 transcript)

Check your account or email later that day for updates to your application status.

Applications will be available online at the website beginning Sunday, December 1, 2020. Families of prospective students must submit an online application by Thursday, April 1, 2021 to be entered in the lottery.

Admission to GCCS is not restricted based on a student’s intellectual ability, disability, race, ethnic background, or religion.  However, preference among applicants is given to siblings of GCCS students and, if open spaces remain, to children of staff members and, if spaces remain, to applicants who are residents of the Rochester City School District.  Suburban students are welcome to apply, but are enrolled after all RCSD applicants.

All applicants who are not admitted to the school are entered onto our waiting list in the order in which their applications are drawn in the lottery.  We fill openings throughout the year from the waiting list.  A new application must be made each year; applications do not roll over from year to year.

Please note:

  • Students do not wear uniforms.
  • Our school calendar differs slightly from the Rochester City School District and suburban districts.
  • School hours are as follows:
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    • Every Wednesday 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m
