Classroom Teachers (Full-time and Long-term Substitutes)

GCCS Teachers work in team-teaching, inclusion settings and plan and teach all core subject areas through the lens of local history and science topics using the GCCS curriculum framework, New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, and the EL Education model. We trust our teachers to create memorable, rigorous, and high-quality learning experiences for all students. Our teachers, like our students, belong to a close-knit community where we take risks, challenge and support one another, and embrace the opportunity to improve our craft. 

We are seeking teachers who:

  • Have experience with project-based teaching and learning.
  • Want to teach in an engaging, child-centered program with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Show a willingness to work as part of a professional community that is continually reflecting, learning, and improving.
  • Demonstrate a broad set of interpersonal and culturally-relevant skills. 
  • Will commit to Responsive Classroom training and the use of restorative practices. 
  • Believe families are equal partners in a child’s education.
  • Recognize the community as an extension of the classroom.

Ideal Teacher Candidates Should Have:

  • Master’s Degree in an applicable area (special education, general education, arts education)
  • NYS Certification or state certification with reciprocity (with plans to attain permanent NYS certification)
  • Diverse student teaching placements and/ or 3-5 years of experience

Teaching Assistants

Teaching Assistants (TAs) work alongside of a co-teaching team in classrooms full-time.   At GCCS, TAs support instruction, build relationships with students and families, and assist classroom teachers with clerical duties and food service.  Teaching Assistants participate in most of the professional development offered and are encouraged to grow in their own pursuits in the education field.

Qualifications of teaching assistants include:

  • High School Diploma required. Associates Degree preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience working with children.
  • Strong desire to teach in a demanding, child-centered program with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate, work flexibly, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Willingness to work as part of a professional community that is continually reflecting, learning, and improving.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
