Join Third Grade for Better World Day – May 1st Home > News > Join Third Grade for Better World Day – May 1st EL Education initiated “Better World Day” last year to honor the power of students across the country to shape a more just future through their learning. School communities – including GCCS – will contribute to a better world by connecting with fellow citizen scholars across the country in acts of service. Third Grade is inviting the entire school community to join them in helping Wild Wings in Mendon Ponds Park. Although Wild Wings is located in Mendon Ponds Park it is not financially supported by the Monroe County Park System. Wild Wings is a non-profit organization that rescues injured birds and raptors in the area and rehabilitates them back to health. Many of these birds live at Wild Wings because they cannot return to their natural habitat. They rely on donations and volunteers to keep their facility open. Third Grade will be doing a Wild Wings Drive to collect needed supplies for the facility. They need supplies such as: Paper towels Zippered sandwich bags Quart sized zippered bags Hydrogen peroxide Napkins 55-gallon trash bags Scotch Bright pads Sunflower seeds Suet cakes Latex gloves The class would like to invite the whole school community to join them at Wild Wings on Wednesday, May 1st from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. to drop off supplies and help with facility maintenance such as spreading mulch, staining the property fence, and weeding garden beds surrounding bird enclosures. The staff will be driving to Wild Wings after dismissal.
